India on Sunday categorically rejected assertions made by the interim government of Bangladesh, saying the claims were unfounded and misleading.

“India has never allowed its territory to be used for activities inimical to the interests of the friendly people of Bangladesh,” said a press release issued by Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on December 14.

Indian government said it has consistently maintained its position in favour of free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections in Bangladesh conducted in a peaceful environment.

The statement further said New Delhi expects the interim government of Bangladesh to take all necessary measures to ensure internal law and order, particularly to facilitate the holding of peaceful elections.

The press release was issued in response to a press note released by the interim government of Bangladesh earlier on Sunday.
