A complaint has been filed at Uttara West Police Station against journalist Anis Alamgir, actress Meher Afroz Shaon, and two others. The complaint was lodged on Sunday night (14 December) by Arian Ahmed, central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The other two accused are Maria Kispotta and Imtu Ratish Imtiaz. Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Mohammad Rafiqul Ahmed said, “The complaint relates to a cyber issue. We have accepted it, and once preliminary verification is complete and instructions are received from senior officials, it will be registered as a formal case.”

According to the complaint, following the anti-discrimination student movement in July 2024 and amid political changes, supporters of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allegedly conspired to destabilise the country using various tactics. The accused are reportedly involved, directly or indirectly, in these activities.

The complaint also alleged that since 5 August 2024, the accused have been participating in social media campaigns and television talk shows aimed at rehabilitating the Awami League. It claimed their statements and online activities have incited members of banned organizations like Chhatra League and Juba League, leading to anti-state conspiracies, violence, and destruction of infrastructure.

Meanwhile, journalist Anis Alamgir was taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning on the same night. DB Chief Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to Jago News, stating that further decisions regarding him will be made after preliminary interrogation.
