Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has described the attack on Inqilab Moncho spokesperson and potential Dhaka-8 candidate Osman Hadi as an isolated incident, assuring that it will not affect the upcoming elections. He emphasised that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared.

Speaking on Monday (15 December) at the “Youth Voter” inauguration programme at Aloki Convention Centre near Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road in Dhaka, the CEC urged citizens not to worry.

In response to a question on the state of law and order, he said, “Where has law and order deteriorated? Occasionally, two or three murders or violent incidents occur. The incident involving Hadi is considered isolated.”

Recalling similar past incidents, he cited the cases of the late Awami League leader Ahsanullah Master and former Finance Minister Kibria, adding, “Such incidents have always occurred in Bangladesh. It is nothing new.”

Regarding preparations for the historic elections, the CEC acknowledged some concerns raised in the media and elsewhere but stated, “I want to make it clear that we have no doubts about the elections. We are fully prepared. Insha’Allah, the elections will be held with everyone’s cooperation. Whatever worries you may have, I urge you to set them aside. We are all working together to ensure a smooth and fair election.”
