SC Secretariat seeks security for Supreme Court, all other courts
The Supreme Court Secretariat has written to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, seeking enhanced security for the Supreme Court as well as all subordinate courts across the country in view of the prevailing law and order situation and potential security risks.
Acting Senior Secretary of the Supreme Court Secretariat Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui sent the letter on Sunday, December 14.
The letter said that, given the current overall law and order situation and emerging security concerns, ensuring safety in court premises has become an urgent necessity.
It noted that, for security reasons, access to courtrooms of both divisions of the Supreme Court has recently been restricted, limiting entry of litigants and unauthorised persons other than lawyers.
The letter also mentioned that all forms of gatherings, processions, and the carrying of legal or illegal firearms, deadly weapons, explosives and narcotics have been completely banned within the Supreme Court premises.
Referring to these measures, the letter urged the IGP to ensure similar security arrangements in subordinate courts across Bangladesh.
These include controlling entry to court premises and courtrooms, monitoring the movement of litigants and visitors, preventing gatherings and processions, and prohibiting the carrying of restricted items within court areas.
The Secretariat also stressed the need to strengthen the personal security of judges, as well as security at their official and private residences, through adequate police deployment and enhanced intelligence surveillance.
The letter specifically requested the IGP to take all necessary steps and issue appropriate instructions to relevant police units to ensure that judicial proceedings in subordinate courts are conducted in a smooth, safe and peaceful environment.
Confirming the matter, Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui told Jago News that the letter was sent from the Office of the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, seeking security for the apex court and all courts across the country.
