200 EU observers to monitor 13th JS polls
The European Union (EU) will send 175 to 200 observers to monitor Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Wednesday, December 17.
Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the matter at a press briefing at the EC headquarters, saying the observers will be provided with necessary facilities, including transportation and movement support, under a tripartite agreement between the EC and the EU.
He added that EU observers are required to follow certain local protocols, particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The observers will also bring some equipment and accessories for their work, which will be returned after the election. A declaration regarding these items will be submitted upon their arrival.
