EC revises 13th JS election schedule

The Election Commission (EC) has revised the schedule of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election within just nine days of its announcement, making changes to key timelines related to nominations and appeals.

Under the revised schedule, the time allowed for candidates to appeal against decisions of returning officers has been reduced by two days.

The appeal period, previously set for January 5-11, has now been shortened to January 5-9.

At the same time, the deadline for disposal of appeals has been extended by two days. Appeals will now be settled between January 10 and January 18, instead of the earlier January 12–18 timeframe.

Meanwhile, candidates still have 10 days remaining to submit their nomination papers, with the deadline set for December 29.

The Election Commission disclosed the revised schedule on Saturday, December 20.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin had announced the original schedule for the parliamentary election and referendum in an address to the nation on December 11.

The EC later amended the relevant notification on December 18.
