3 die as five vehicles plunge into river from ferry
Three people died after five vehicles, including a truck, plunged into the Dhaleshwari River from a ferry in Narayanganj on Saturday night, December 21.
The deceased were identified as motorcycle rider Rafique, van puller Swadhin, and expatriate Masud.
When a ferry carrying passengers and vehicles from Boktabali ghat reached the middle of the river, a truck on it suddenly started moving and fell into the river along with a motorcycle, two battery-run auto-rickshaws, and a van, said Boktabali Naval police outpost's in-charge, inspector Md Rakibuzzaman.
Several passengers went missing in the incident; however, the truck driver managed to swim to shore, he said.
Three bodies were recovered after the incident, and a process is underway to hand over the bodies to their respective families, said Md Hasinuzzaman, additional superintendent of police, Narayanganj.
Last night, he also said that the search activities were closed for now and will resume on Sunday morning, December 21.
