Two remanded for aiding Hadi’s killers to cross border
A Dhaka court on Sunday (21 December) granted a five-day remand each for Sibyon Dio, 32, and Sanjay Chisim, 23, who are accused of aiding the perpetrators of the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi in crossing the border.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah issued the order following a request from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB). Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon represented the state during the hearing.
The DB said initial investigations indicate that a syndicate was involved in Hadi’s killing and that Sibyon and Sanjay helped the main suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and his associates, flee the country illegally after the murder.
According to the DB’s remand application, Osman Hadi was shot at close range on 12 December while traveling in a moving auto-rickshaw on Box Culvert Road, Paltan Model Police Station area, near the Bijoynagar water tank. He was critically injured and first admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, later transferred to Evercare Hospital, and then flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment. He succumbed to his injuries on the night of 18 December.
A case has been filed at Paltan Model Police Station under Sections 120(B), 326, 307, 109, 34, and 302 of the Penal Code. The DB’s Motijheel zonal team is currently investigating the case.
Police said that after the murder, Faisal Karim Masud and his associates fled to a neighboring country through the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh. Information from media reports, technical analysis, and interrogations of arrested suspects suggests the involvement of a syndicate. A person known as ‘Philip’ has been identified as the mastermind of the border-crossing operation. His location has been tracked, and further interrogations are underway to identify the financiers, planners, and accomplices of the murder.
Earlier, on 18 December, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam had granted a three-day remand for the same suspects and instructed the police to ensure their cooperation during the investigation.
