CEC urges DCs, SPs to take bold steps in upcoming polls
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has urged field Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to take bold steps in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.
He said, “When you give me courage with full commitment, I will also act courageously. Your pledge empowers me. Whenever you take decisive actions to uphold the law and work within the framework of rules and regulations, Insha’Allah, the Election Commission will stand by you.”
The CEC made the remarks on Tuesday (23 December) morning during a briefing at the Election Commission Auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, which was attended by DCs, SPs, divisional commissioners, and regional election officials.
At the beginning of the session, Nasir Uddin prayed for the soul of Shaheed Osman Hadi and expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family. Other Election Commissioners and senior field administration officials were also present.
Emphasising the importance of impartiality, the CEC said, “There is no need to please me. You must conduct your subordinates according to the law. It is your responsibility to ensure the system functions properly. Strict vigilance is required to prevent any irregularities.”
He added, “We want to be free from the criticisms currently directed at our election system. We aim to demonstrate that we can deliver a proper and fair election. This is only possible through strict enforcement of the rule of law.”
Addressing the officials, Nasir Uddin said, “We want to show what the rule of law truly means. Rule of law means the law is blind and applied equally to all. A great responsibility has been entrusted to you. If we fail to perform our duties correctly during this critical time, we will be accountable to future generations.”
