BNP leader killed in Faridpur by assailants posing as police
A local BNP leader was killed in Faridpur on Thursday night in an attack carried out by assailants posing as police. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The attack took place in Brahman Jatigram village of Sadar Union in Alfadanga upazila. The deceased was identified as Saiful Sardar, also known as Saifel, 47, Secretary for Literature and Cultural Affairs of Sadar Union BNP, and son of Hobi Sardar of the village. The injured in the attack is Ismail Molya.
According to police and local sources, the attack is linked to a long-standing rivalry between the Tuhin group and the Jewel group over local dominance. Members of the Tuhin group, disguised as police, allegedly entered Saiful Sardar’s house and launched a sudden attack. He was taken to the hospital but died on the way.
Abdul Mannan Abbas, President of Alfadanga Upazila BNP, told Jago News: “We demand a thorough investigation into the murder and strict punishment for those responsible.”
Officer-in-charge of Alfadanga Police, Md Abul Hasnat Khan, confirmed the incident, saying: “There has been a long-standing rivalry between the two groups over local dominance. Late at night, the attackers, posing as police, entered the house and killed the individual. One person has been arrested, and legal action is underway.”
