Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus addresses the nation on Tuesday.

Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has called on the nation to maintain discipline in all mourning activities, including the namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer), following the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

He stated that, in observance of the former Prime Minister’s passing, he has declared three days of state mourning and a one-day public holiday on Wednesday for her namaz-e-janaza.

In an address to the nation, Yunus said, “I understand that everyone is deeply emotional at this time. I hope that during this period of mourning, you will show patience and assist all those involved in conducting her funeral and related ceremonies.” He also urged the public to remain vigilant to ensure that no attempts are made to create instability or disrupt public order. “It is crucial for all of us to play a responsible role at this time,” he added.

Commenting on Khaleda Zia’s legacy, Yunus said, “Begum Khaleda Zia was a highly distinguished figure in Bangladeshi politics. Her remarkable contributions to democracy, multi-party political culture, and the establishment of people’s rights will remain indelibly recorded in history. Her uncompromising leadership against authoritarianism and fascism repeatedly guided the nation out of undemocratic situations and inspired the pursuit of freedom.”
