Khaleda's funeral prayer held with massive public turnout
The namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was held at Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday afternoon amid an unprecedented turnout of mourners.
The namaz-e-janaza was offered at 3:00 PM, drawing hundreds of thousands of people from across the capital and beyond who gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran political leader.
The prayer was led by Abdul Malek, Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, the chiefs of the three-armed forces, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, senior BNP leaders, political figures, party activists, and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
Law enforcement agencies deployed additional security personnel in and around the venue to maintain order as the massive crowd filled the avenue and surrounding areas.
The large turnout highlighted Khaleda Zia’s enduring influence on Bangladesh’s political life and the profound public response to her passing.
