28 bank accounts of Biplob, wife frozen
A Dhaka court on Thursday, January 1, ordered the freezing of 28 bank accounts and two BO (Beneficiary Owner) accounts held in the names of former Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Biplob Kumar Sarker, and his wife, Hosne Ara Begum.
Of the accounts, nine bank accounts and two BO accounts are in the name of Biplob Kumar Sarkar, while the remaining 19 bank accounts are in the name of his wife, Hosne Ara Begum.
The order was passed by Acting Judge Md Alamgir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court following a petition filed by the investigating officer and Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Russell Rony.
According to the application, allegations are under investigation against Biplob Kumar Sarkar and others for committing offences under the Money Laundering Prevention Act by concealing sources of illegally acquired income.
The allegations also include the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income and purchasing properties in both disclosed and undisclosed names.
During the inquiry, information was obtained regarding bank and BO accounts held in the names of Biplob Kumar Sarkar and his wife, Hosne Ara Begum.
It was stated that they have been attempting to transfer, move, or misappropriate funds from their respective bank and BO accounts.
If the assets are transferred or misappropriated, recovery of the funds at a later stage would become difficult.
Therefore, it has become necessary to immediately freeze their bank and BO accounts, the application said.
Earlier on December 9, 2025, the court imposed a travel ban on Biplob, his wife, and two of their relatives.
