Seven vehicles were involved in three separate accidents in dense fog on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj, at Sreenagar and Louhajang, leaving at least 20 people injured. Among them, three—including a covered van driver and a bus driver—are in critical condition, according to the Fire Service.

The accidents occurred between 1:00 am and 5:30 am on Friday on the Mawa-bound lane at the slope of the Chhanbari Bridge in Sreenagar and at Medenimandal in Louhajang. In the last incident early Friday morning, a covered van collided with a truck in Sreenagar.

The three collisions caused temporary traffic disruptions on the expressway. With assistance from the Fire Service, the Highway Police cleared the damaged vehicles, restoring normal traffic flow.

According to Sreenagar Fire Service and Civil Defence sources, a passenger bus lost control on the Chhanbari Bridge around 1:00 am and hit a truck in front of it. Another truck then collided with the bus from behind, injuring at least 16 people, including the bus driver. Fire Service personnel rescued the injured, who were taken to Sreenagar Health Complex. Those in critical condition were later referred to Dhaka and Faridpur Medical College Hospitals.

Meanwhile, at Medenimandal in Louhajang, a fast-moving covered van lost control in dense fog and collided with a truck ahead. The van’s front was severely damaged, trapping the driver. Fire Service personnel rescued two people in critical condition and sent them to Sreenagar Health Complex before transferring them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The critically injured are identified as truck driver Md. Ripon Mia (55) and bus supervisor Md. Manik Mia (44).

The Fire Service stated that lack of driver caution, dense fog, and high vehicle speeds were the main causes of the accidents.

Confirming the details, Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain of Sreenagar Fire Service and Civil Defence told Jago News: “The Dhaka-Mawa Expressway was shrouded in dense fog, making visibility extremely limited even for short distances. This significantly increased the risk of accidents on this major highway.”

He added that the Highway Police are taking legal action against the vehicles involved.
