Touhid says no foreign pressure on elections
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said that Bangladesh is not facing any external pressure regarding its upcoming 13 parliamentary elections, scheduled to held on February 12 this year.
He made the remarks following a meeting with district officials held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Munshiganj on Saturday, January 1.
Touhid emphasised that the interim government is organising the elections and will transfer power to the newly elected government. “All countries maintain good relations with the country, and there is no question of foreign pressure,” he said.
On the issue of suspects involved in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder case, the adviser stated that efforts are underway to bring them to justice, but their exact locations remain unconfirmed. “Investigation is ongoing, and the government is committed to ensuring a fair and timely trial,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Md Menhazul Alam PPM, and other senior district officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Touhid participated in memorial events honoring the martyrs of the July movement, laying wreaths at the July Martyrs Memorial in South Kotgaon and visiting graves of three martyrs in North Islampur.
