Mahadi Hasan, a leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was granted bail on Sunday in a case filed over obstructing police duties in Habiganj.

Mahadi’s lawyer, MA Majid, confirmed the development to Jago News. He was produced before Senior Judicial Magistrate-3 Abdul Mannan in Habiganj by Shayestaganj police at 8:00 am.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged protests at the court, demanding his release. Strong security was deployed during the demonstrations.

Mahadi had been arrested on Saturday night around 7:45 pm from Shasthongor area in Habiganj by Shayestaganj police and taken to Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station. Following his arrest, the organization’s activists gathered at the police station and held protests throughout the night.

Shayestaganj police station’s officer-in-charge Abul Kalam confirmed that Mahadi was arrested for obstructing police duties, and a case was filed against him.

Notably, Mahadi reportedly had an argument with the officer-in-charge of Shayestaganj police station while trying to secure the release of the organization’s leader Noyon, who had been detained. A video of the incident went viral on social media, after which Mahadi received a show-cause notice from the organization.
