Dense fog disrupts flight operations at Dhaka airport for 4 hours
Thick fog grounded all flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) for nearly four hours on Sunday morning, January 4, disrupting both arrivals and departures.
According to airport authorities, visibility dropped sharply after 6:00 am, preventing any flights from taking off. Around six flights in Dhaka’s airspace were also unable to land during this period.
Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, Executive Director of the airport, said that the airport was not officially closed, but poor visibility made it unsafe for flight operations.
Normal operations resumed at 9:52 am, he added.
Airport sources reported that several flights had to circle over the city, awaiting clearance to land as visibility gradually improved.
