Police used batons against mobile traders who staged a protest in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, on Sunday against the implementation of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) and to demand the release of traders arrested in connection with the BTRC building attack.

At the same time, police fired tear gas, water cannons, and sound grenades, turning Karwan Bazar into a battlefield.

The incidents took place between approximately 11:30 am and 12:15 pm, during which the traders also hurled bricks and stones at law enforcement personnel.

Organized by the Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MBCB), the protesters marched from Banglamotor intersection around 11:00 a.m., blocking the Karwan Bazar intersection and disrupting traffic. Police first used batons to disperse the protesters, who then moved towards Katalbagan and threw bricks at police. When they attempted to block Karwan Bazar intersection again, authorities deployed water cannons, tear gas, and sound grenades in a second action.

Currently, members of the police, RAB, and the army remain present at the scene.
