The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main suspect in the incident in which lawyer Naim Kibria, 35, was beaten to death in the Basundhara residential area of the capital. The arrested suspect has been identified as Md. Zobayer Hossain Pappu, 29.

RAB stated that Zobayer Hossain has confessed to his involvement in the incident. This information was shared on Sunday (January 4) night by Additional Police Superintendent of RAB-1, Rakib Hasan.

According to him, on the night of December 31, Naim Kibria went for a drive in the Basundhara residential area in his private car. An argument and altercation broke out over a collision between Naim’s car and a motorcycle. At that time, unidentified individuals on another motorcycle forcibly pulled Naim Kibria out of his car and beat him indiscriminately, hitting him in various parts of his body.

Naim Kibria was later rescued and taken to Kurmitola General Hospital around 10:45 pm, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. A murder case was subsequently filed at Vatara Police Station.

Additional Police Superintendent Rakib Hasan added that an investigative team of RAB-1 conducted a shadow investigation to apprehend the suspects. Using information technology and intelligence, they tracked Zobayer Hossain to the Baridhara area. Following an operation, Zobayer Hossain was arrested, and the motorcycle used in the crime was also recovered.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals involved in the incident. Zobayer Hossain has been handed over to Vatara Police Station for legal proceedings, the RAB official added.
