CEC sees polls environment satisfactory
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that, so far, the environment for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections has been satisfactory. He made the remark on Monday (January 5) after inspecting the appeal booths while entering the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The CEC added that with everyone’s cooperation, the upcoming elections can be conducted freely and fairly.
Meanwhile, from today, appeals against decisions made by Returning Officers can be submitted to the Election Commission. Hearings on these appeals will begin on January 10 and continue gradually at the auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The Election Commission stated that aggrieved candidates, banks, or financial institutions can appeal within five days against the Returning Officers’ decisions to accept or reject nomination papers. To submit an appeal, one set of original documents and six sets of photocopies must be provided in memorandum format.
The EC has divided the country into ten regions and established separate booths to receive appeals. Hearings will be conducted daily from 10:00 am according to a designated serial order. The hearings are scheduled from January 10 to January 18, although this may change depending on the number of appeals and the situation.
