Hadi murder: 53 bank accounts of prime accused Faisal frozen

A Dhaka court on Wednesday, January 7, asked the authorities concerned to freeze Tk 65,50,246 from 53 bank accounts of Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sabbir Foyez passed the order following a petition filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police, said bench assistant of the court Riaz Hossain.

Abdul Latif, sub-inspector of the CID, filed the petition.

According to the petition, a money laundering investigation is underway against fugitive accused Faisal and other people for involvement in the killing of Osman Hadi.

During the investigation, suspicious transactions have been identified in the accounts of the accused Faisal and various institutions and individuals associated.

Besides, preliminary probe indicates that Faisal, some other individuals, and organisations are involved in murder, terrorism, funding of terrorist activities and organised crime—acts which fall under offenses defined in the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the chargesheet against 17 people, including Faisal and former Dhaka North City ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury, on Tuesday, January 6.

Among the accused, 11 were arrested.

Osman Hadi, a prominent figure of the July Mass Uprising last year, was shot in the head on December 12 while travelling on a rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in the capital's Bijaynagar area.

Later, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.

On December 20, he was laid to rest beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University.
