Govt confident of fair polls amid concerns over DC appointments

The government on Thursday, January 8, expressed confidence that a free, fair and impartial election can be held despite concerns over the experience of district administrators (DCs) appointed before the announcement of the election schedule.

“The field administration is ready and competent. If any deviation is noticed anywhere, immediate action will be taken,” Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid told reporters at the Secretariat.

Asked whether he remains optimistic about ensuring a fair and impartial election under the current administration, the Cabinet Secretary said, “I am still optimistic. It can be done, InshaAllah.”

Responding to questions about the experience of the DCs, he said skills and experience are developed through real-life situations.

“Not everyone comes with experience. Experience is gained while performing duties. If their attitude is right and they follow the right path, they can be 100 percent successful,” he added.

The Cabinet Secretary also said the activities of the field administration are being closely monitored. “If any specific deviation or complaint is identified, necessary action will be taken immediately, but no action will be taken indiscriminately.”
