Pipeline damage in Turag river causes severe gas crisis in Dhaka

A cargo trawler damaged a gas distribution pipeline in the Turag River near Aminbazar in the capital, triggering a severe gas crisis across the Dhaka metropolitan area. Repair work on the damaged pipeline is currently underway.

Titas Gas authorities disclosed the information in a statement issued on Friday (9 January).

According to the statement, although the damaged pipeline has been repaired, water entered the line during the repair process. Meanwhile, gas supply to Dhaka city remains low, resulting in critically low gas pressure across the metropolitan area. Efforts are continuing to address the low-pressure problem.

Titas Gas authorities have expressed regret over the temporary inconvenience caused to customers.
