Work on the Teesta mega-project, the country’s largest water infrastructure initiative, will begin once China grants its approval, said Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

She made the remarks on Sunday while addressing journalists at Saidpur Airport after arriving from Dhaka to attend a public meeting in Nilphamari aimed at raising voter awareness ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary election.

Rizwana said that the interim government has already submitted all required documents to China, and final discussions regarding project financing have been completed.

A team of Chinese experts is currently reviewing the plans, and the project will commence as soon as they give their consent.

She also highlighted that ensuring a free and fair election is a shared responsibility of both the interim government and the citizens.

After speaking to the media, she traveled to Nilphamari to participate in the scheduled outreach programmes.
