The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has deferred the judgment in the Chankharpul crimes against humanity case to January 26, as the verdict could not be finalised within the scheduled time.

The three-member panel, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, set the new date on Tuesday.

The tribunal had earlier fixed December 24 last year for the verdict, after the defence concluded its arguments. On July 14, 2025, ICT-1 had framed charges against eight accused in connection with the killings.

The accused are former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman, former DMP joint commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former additional deputy commissioner Shah Alam Mohammad Akhtarul Islam, former assistant commissioner of DMP's Ramna zone Mohammad Imrul, former inspector Md Arshad Hossain, and constables Md Sujon, Imaj Hossain Emon, and Nasirul Islam.

The first four accused have not yet been arrested and are being tried in absentia.

The prosecution filed formal charges against all eight accused on May 25, marking the first formal charges at the ICT in cases arising from the July–August mass uprising.

The six victims—Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Mahdi Hasan Zunayed, Md Yakub, Md Rakib Hawlader, Md Ismamul Haque, and Manik Miah—were killed in Chankharpul on August 5, 2024.

The tribunal’s investigation agency submitted a 90-page probe report on April 20, 2025.
