Islami Andolan leader killed in Kushtia road accident
A local leader of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) was killed and one of his associates injured in a road accident in Kushtia's Kumarkhali on Friday night, January 23.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak Badsha, 48, son of Hachen Ali of Betbaria village in Jagannathpur Union. He was the owner of Al-Madina Sweet Store near Kumarkhali bus stand and served as the president of IAB’s Jagannathpur Union unit. His injured associate was named Mufti Khairul Bashar.
According to police, witnesses, and locals, Badsha was riding a motorcycle with his associate to visit the residence of IAB candidate for the Kushtia-4 constituency, Anwar Khan, in Khoksha around 10:00 pm, when a mini-truck carrying potatoes approached from the same direction.
While attempting to overtake the truck near Fultola on the Kushtia-Rajbari highway, Badsha lost control, fell onto the road, and was crushed under the vehicle's wheel. Bashar sustained minor injuries and is out of danger.
Local resident Kazi Saiful said Badsha was heading to meet a candidate when the accident occurred during the overtaking maneuver.
Anwar Khan, IAB candidate for Kushtia-4, said he had spoken with Badsha shortly before the incident.
Kumarkhali police station officer-in-charge Jamal Uddin confirmed the death and said the fragmented body was handed over to the highway police, who will take legal action.
