Formal charge filed against Hasina, 7 others in Jahajbari case
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday filed formal charges against eight individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, over the alleged staged raid by law enforcement that left nine people dead.
Other prominent accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, and former head of the police's Special Branch Monirul Islam.
ICT prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the filing to the media.
Earlier, on March 24, 2025, ICT-1 had ordered the arrest of AKM Shahidul Haque, Asaduzzaman Miah, and the then Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DMP’s Mirpur Zone, Jasim Uddin Mollah, in connection with the case.
According to the prosecution, members of various units of the DMP and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at a house, locally known as “Jahajbari,” in Kalyanpur, Dhaka, on July 26, 2016.
Allegations later emerged that the raid had been staged and that the nine individuals killed, who were branded as militants, had no links to militancy. It was further claimed that they had been held in police custody for an extended period and were shot at close range.
Following the incident, then IGP AKM Shahidul Haque visited the site and stated that the deceased were members of the banned militant outfit Neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB).
