Travel ban imposed on DNCC Administrator Azaz

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz amid an ongoing corruption investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court Judge Md Sabbir Foyez issued the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday, February 1.

According to court sources, ACC Assistant Director Ashiqur Rahman filed the petition, citing allegations of abuse of power, bribery, and other irregularities against Azaz.

The ACC highlighted several alleged irregularities under DNCC’s jurisdiction, including the Mirpur-Gabtoli cattle market lease, the e-rickshaw project, partnerships in Borak Tower and Sheraton Hotel, shop allocations in Banani Kacha Bazar, construction and allocation of shops in Khilgaon Taltola Super Market parking, management of city van services, and sidewalk shop allocations.

The petition also noted that Azaz failed to appear when summoned for questioning.

Considering the risk that he might leave the country and obstruct the investigation, the court upheld the ACC’s request and prohibited his foreign travel.
