Ekushey Book Fair to begin as scheduled Feb 20

The Bangla Academy is not considering deferring the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026, and it will take place as scheduled on February 20.

Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam shared this information at a press conference on Thursday, February 5.

At the press conference, the academy said publishers' demand to defer the fair until Eid-ul-Fitr has no rationality.

On Februar 2, a section of publishers urged authorities to reschedule the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 by February 5 until after Eid-ul-Fitr.

They warned that staging the country’s largest literary event during Ramadan could deal a severe blow to Bangladesh’s already struggling creative publishing industry.
