Prisoner found dead in Kushtia jail
Police recovered the hanging body of a 27-year-old inmate from the grille of Kushtia District Jail on Saturday morning, February 7.
The deceased was identified as Bidyut Ali, son of Chanddu Ali, a resident of Fakirabad village under Bheramara upazila in the district.
Confirming the matter, Kushtia District Jail Superintendent Shariful Alam said that Bidyut had been serving a two-month sentence for a drug-related case.
He was found hanging from the grille of a bathroom window, reportedly using his towel to take his own life, he claimed.
The body was recovered from there and sent to the Kushtia General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, he said.
Dr Hossain Imam, Resident Medical Officer of the hospital, said that the body was brought dead to the hospital.
The exact cause of death would be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report, he said, adding that the body was handed over to the family in accordance with legal procedures.
