Fair voting the key challenge now, next week crucial, says Yunus
Chief Adviser to the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday said the preparation phase for the upcoming national election has been completed successfully, but ensuring fair voting now remains the main challenge.
“So far, the preparation phase has been completed very well. We are very happy,” he said, adding, “The challenge before us now is fair voting. The next week is very crucial.”
Professor Yunus made the remarks at a high-level meeting on preparations for the national election scheduled for February 12, held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday afternoon.
Later, briefing journalists outside Jamuna on Saturday night, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam conveyed the comments, quoting the Chief Adviser.
According to Shafiqul Alam, Professor Yunus also observed during the meeting that the election campaign is continuing across the country in an enthusiastic and peaceful atmosphere.
“No one is speaking harshly against anyone. There is no rude behaviour or use of offensive language. This is a very positive change for our politics, history and culture,” the Chief Adviser was quoted as saying.
