Govt seeks OHCHR support to probe Hadi killing

Bangladesh has sought the cooperation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in investigating the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and a key organiser of the July Uprising.

Following instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva sent a formal Note Verbale to the OHCHR on February 6, 2026, requesting technical and institutional assistance in probing the killing and ensuring accountability.

According to the message sent by the Bangladesh Mission in Geneva, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be informed immediately upon receiving any response from the UN Human Rights Office.

The government reiterated its firm commitment to identifying and bringing to justice those responsible for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi. It also emphasised that the investigation process would ensure maximum transparency and accountability in line with international human rights standards.

Sharif Osman Hadi was a prominent organiser of the July Uprising and a known voice of the Inqilab Mancha, and his killing has drawn widespread attention and calls for an impartial investigation.
