Man jailed for 'misconduct' at Kushtia polling centre

A mobile court on Thursday sentenced a young man to three months of rigorous imprisonment for misconduct with a police officer at a polling centre in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district.

The convicted individual, M Anik Hossain, 28, son of Azgar Rahman, a resident of Katdahchar village in the upazila, was detained from the Poradah Secondary School polling centre in the afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Mirpur upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Islam said that Anik entered the polling centre and cast his vote. After voting, he reportedly remained inside the premises despite being instructed by an on-duty police officer to leave.

He, at one point, allegedly used abusive and derogatory language toward the officer.

Following the incident, he was taken before a mobile court, which sentenced him to three months of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Tk 500, he said, adding that in default of payment, he will have to serve an additional seven days in jail.
