EC postpones results of Sherpur-2, Ctg-2, Ctg-4

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to postpone the results of three constituencies in the 13th national parliamentary elections.

The seats affected are Sherpur-2, Chattogram-2, and Chattogram-4. The results were withheld due to legal issues concerning the winning candidates, senior assistant secretary of the EC Secretariat Md Shahidul Islam said.

In a separate notification, the Commission stated that it is legally obliged to withhold the publication of results until the final disposal of the relevant cases.

On February 3, 2026, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court allowed Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, candidate of Chattogram-4 (Constituency 281), to contest the poll by disposing of a writ petition filed by him with the High Court Division. However, the court ruled that the election result will remain suspended until the case is finally settled.

Similarly, the Appellate Division responded to a writ petition filed by Sarwar Alamgir, candidate of Chattogram-2 (Constituency 279), allowing him to contest the election but keeping the result on hold until the case is resolved.

The court also accepted the writ petition of Mohammad Fahim Chowdhury, candidate of Sherpur-2 (Constituency 114), permitting him to contest the election, while the final result will be announced subject to the disposal of the pending case.
