‘Yes’ wins as referendum turnout reaches 60.26%
The referendum held alongside the 13th Parliamentary Election recorded a voter turnout of 60.26 percent, with the “Yes” vote securing a clear majority, officials said on Friday, February 13.
According to official figures, 48,074,429 votes were cast in favor of “Yes,” compared with 22,565,627 votes for “No.”
The results were announced by Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at a press briefing at the Election Building in Agargaon.
“With 48,074,429 votes in support, the ‘Yes’ side has won,” Ahmed told reporters, adding that the “No” camp received 22,565,627 votes.
Responding to questions about how the referendum turnout exceeded that of the parliamentary election, the senior secretary said voting in two constituencies had been fully completed, but their election results would not be published. As a result, the overall turnout percentage for the referendum appeared higher.
Further details are expected from the Election Commission.
