6 injured in Natore BNP, Jamaat clash
At least six people were injured in violent clashes between supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami at Baraigram upazila in Natore, following a series of retaliatory attacks.
The incident occurred in the Dhanaidah Purba Para area of the Upazila at around 10:30 am on Saturday.
Among the seriously injured were Asab Sarkar, BNP Ward 8 president, and Amir Hasinur Rahman, Jamaat leader of Nagar union.
According to Baraigram police and local sources, the clashes were triggered by an earlier altercation on Friday afternoon, when BNP activists allegedly assaulted a Jamaat worker, Sabbir, over election-related issues. In retaliation, Jamaat supporters attacked BNP leader Asab Sarkar on Saturday morning, which escalated into a broader clash between supporters of both parties. Several houses, around five to six, were vandalised during the clash.
Security forces, including the army, Ansar, police, and BGB, were deployed to restore order, said Natore Superintendent of Police Md Abdul Wahab.
Injured individuals were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
The situation is now under control, the SP said, adding that legal action will be taken against those found involved in the incident.
Joint security patrols continue to maintain law and order in the area, he said.
