The sixth death anniversary of poet Al Mahmud, whose poetry inspired freedom-loving people from the 1952 Language Movement to the Liberation War of 1971 and the bloody July mass uprising, was observed on Sunday, February 15, reports BSS.

Al Mahmud enriched Bangla literature through his verses that reflected protest, love, nature, and prayer.

He passed away on this day in 2019.

Various social and literary organisations across the country have undertaken programmes to mark the anniversary of the eminent Bangla poet.

Abid Azam, editor of the Al Mahmud-focused organisation ‘Kaler Kolosh’, said a commemorative programme has been arranged at the Al Mahmud Corner of Bangla Academy at 4:00 pm today.

Distinguished personalities from the fields of art, literature and culture, along with admirers of the poet, attended the event.

The programme included discussions on the poet’s life and works, as well as recitations and musical performances.
