Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that troops deployed across the country will return to their barracks once the new government assumes office and issues formal instructions.

He made the remarks while addressing officers and soldiers of all ranks at the Chief of Army’s Darbar on Sunday, February 15, according to sources present at the meeting.

The army chief said that the country has returned to a democratic trajectory and that the armed forces carried out their responsibilities professionally to maintain law and order during a critical period, including the national elections.

He noted that the army is now awaiting directives from the incoming government regarding the withdrawal of troops.

General Waker also informed the gathering that additional personnel deployed specifically for election duties have already been withdrawn.
