Sony Rangs MD, two others face travel ban
A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Ekram Hussain, Managing Director of Sony Rangs Electronics Limited, Beanus Hussain, Deputy Managing Director, and Sachimi Ogawara Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order after hearing a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday, February 16.
The ACC petition alleges that Ekram Hossain, Binas Hossain, and Sachimi Ogawara Hossain are under investigation for illegally acquiring and attempting to transfer approximately Tk 15,000–20,000 crore abroad. The matter is currently under investigation.
According to the petition, confidential investigations and complaints indicate that the individuals and their family members hold substantial movable and immovable assets both in Bangladesh and abroad. There are also concerns that illegally acquired assets may be transferred elsewhere.
ACC Deputy Director and investigating officer Md Al Amin told the court that restricting their travel abroad is essential to ensure a proper investigation, prevent the transfer of assets, and preserve evidence.
Following the hearing, the court approved ACC’s petition and imposed the travel ban on the three individuals.
