JS sends letter to CEC to administer oath of new MPs
The Parliament Secretariat has sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin requesting him to administer the oath to the newly elected members of the 13th national parliament.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban for Tuesday, 17 February.
Confirming the matter, Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, “We have received a letter from the Parliament Secretariat regarding the oath-taking of the newly elected MPs.”
The ceremony will start with MPs from the BNP alliance, followed by members of the Jamaat alliance, and then independent candidates.
In the 13th national parliamentary elections, the BNP secured an absolute majority to form the government.
According to official EC results, out of 297 parliamentary seats, the BNP won 209 seats, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami 68 seats, the NCP six seats, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis two seats, and Khelafat Majlis one seat.
Other parties, including Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gana Adhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Gana Sanghati Andolan, and Khelafat Majlis, each won one seat, while independent candidates claimed seven seats.
Kaniz Maula, Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, told Jago News, “The oath-taking ceremony will begin at 10:00am on Tuesday in the designated oath room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.”
