Who gets which portfolio in new cabinet

The Cabinet Division has issued a gazette notification appointing the Prime Minister and other members of the cabinet following their oath-taking ceremony. The notification was issued late Tuesday night (February 17).

Earlier in the afternoon, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. At the same ceremony, President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to 25 cabinet ministers and 24 state ministers.

With the issuance of the Cabinet Division’s notification assigning portfolios, the formation of the new 50-member cabinet has been completed. Through this, the BNP has formed the government for the fourth time after 20 years. Tarique Rahman has become Prime Minister for the first time.

Three ministries under the Prime Minister

In the new cabinet, the Prime Minister has retained the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Defence, and the Armed Forces Division under his direct supervision.

Voting for the 13th parliamentary election was held on February 12. The BNP secured an absolute majority, winning two-thirds of the seats. Results for 297 out of 299 constituencies have been announced. The BNP-led alliance won 212 seats, while the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP alliance secured 77 seats, and independents and others won eight seats.

Newly elected Members of Parliament took oath on Tuesday morning (February 17). Later, at a parliamentary party meeting, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was elected leader of the House and Prime Minister.
