During the holy month of Ramadan, restrictions have been imposed on carrying or consuming food, including iftar items, while traveling on the metro rail. This means passengers will not be allowed to bring or eat iftar items on the metro during iftar time. Only a 250ml bottle of water may be carried during travel, and empty bottles must not be discarded indiscriminately.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the operator of the metro rail, issued a directive on February 16 outlining a revised schedule for Ramadan. The notice, signed by AKM Khairul Alam, Director (Administration) of DMTCL, also included the restrictions related to iftar.

According to the directive, during Ramadan each passenger may carry only a 250ml bottle of water in metro trains and station areas for the purpose of breaking the fast. Passengers must ensure that water is not spilled, and used bottles must be disposed of in designated bins located on platforms, concourses, or at entry and exit gates. Under no circumstances will any other food be allowed on platforms, concourses, or inside metro trains.

Meanwhile, under the new directive, the metro rail will operate on a revised schedule starting Thursday (February 19). The updated timetable will remain in effect on weekly working days until the day before Eid-ul-Fitr, in line with Ramadan office hours.

According to metro rail sources, during Ramadan the first train from Uttara North to Motijheel will depart at 6:30am and the last train at 9:30pm. In the opposite direction, the first train from Motijheel to Uttara North will depart at 7:15am and the last train at 10:10pm.

The schedule for Saturdays, Fridays, and other government holidays will remain unchanged.
