Ozil, Erdogan’s son unharmed after convoy accident in Cox’s Bazar
A vehicle convoy carrying former German football star Mesut Ozil and Necmettin Bilal Erdogan, son of the Turkish president, was involved in a road accident while returning from a visit to the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident occurred around 7:00 pm on Thursday (19 February) in the Kutupalong area of Ukhiya, along the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway.
Although neither Özil nor any member of the delegation was injured, a motorised autorickshaw collided with one of the convoy vehicles and was badly damaged. The autorickshaw driver reportedly sustained injuries, though his identity is yet to be confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam of Shahparir Dwip Highway Police Station said the autorickshaw hit a police vehicle that was part of the convoy while returning from Cox’s Bazar. He added that no one was seriously hurt and there was no significant damage.
He further said that security personnel at the scene quickly brought the situation under control, after which the convoy proceeded. The damaged autorickshaw has been taken into police custody.
