No threats ahead of Int’l Mother Language Day: RAB DG
The Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), AKM Shahidur Rahman, has said that no threats have been detected ahead of the International Mother Language Day (February 21) events. However, he emphasised that all necessary preparations have been made and RAB is ready to respond to any situation.
Speaking at a briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar premises at 11:20am on Friday regarding the overall law and order situation and special security arrangements nationwide for the observance of Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day, the RAB chief said, “All arrangements around the Shaheed Minar have been completed. RAB personnel have been deployed in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.”
He added that RAB’s security setup includes inner and outer perimeters, divided into several sectors. Each sector has foot patrols, mobile patrols and striking reserve forces. The Shaheed Minar area has been thoroughly swept, and the RAB Bomb Disposal Unit is on standby. The entire area is under surveillance through 64 CCTV cameras.
“Adequate security arrangements have also been made across the country. We are confident that we can carry out this operation successfully,” he said.
The RAB DG further noted that security at the Shaheed Minar has been given the utmost importance. The Bomb Disposal Unit and dog squad have completed necessary sweeps, and special forces are on constant alert to handle any unexpected situation. Security arrangements have also been made for VVIPs, VIPs and political leaders who will pay tribute at the Central Shaheed Minar.
