Death toll rises to five in clash over dominance in Narail
The death toll in the clash between two rival groups over local dominance in Singosholpur Union of Narail Sadar Upazila has risen to five, as another person succumbed to injuries. At least six to seven people were also seriously injured in the incident.
The clash took place around 5:30 am on Monday (23 February) in Barokula village of the upazila. Narail Superintendent of Police Al Mamun Shikder confirmed the matter.
The deceased have been identified as Khalil Rahman of the Khalil group, his son Tahajjud Hossain, Ferdous Hossain and his son Munna Sheikh from the same group, and Osibur Mia from the group of former Singosholpur Union chairman Khayer.
According to police and local sources, a long-standing dispute had been ongoing between supporters of Khayer and Khalil. The conflict escalated into a bloody clash early Monday morning in the Barokula area. Khalil Rahman, his son Tahajjud Hossain, and Ferdous Hossain along with his son Munna Sheikh were killed on the spot after being attacked with locally made weapons.
Osibur Mia, a member of former chairman Khayer’s group who was critically injured during the clash, was taken to Narail District Hospital, where doctors at the emergency department declared him dead.
Superintendent of Police Al Mamun Shikder said additional police forces have been deployed at the scene to maintain law and order, and legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway.
