Legal notice served demanding removal of President
A legal notice has been sent to the government demanding the removal of President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the appointment of a new President. The notice was sent on Wednesday (February 25) by lawyer ASM Shahriar Kabir on behalf of Abdullah Al Mahmud.
The notice names the Cabinet Secretary and the Secretary of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, among others, as respondents.
According to the notice, the President allegedly disrespected the “Spirit of July” in a recent interview, which, the notice claims, makes him unfit to continue in office. It also alleges that during his tenure, the 12th parliamentary election—widely described as a “dummy election”—was held in 2024, and that he has violated his oath of office.
The notice demands that a new president be appointed and that the inaugural address of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) be delivered by the newly appointed president.
It further warns that if appropriate action is not taken within 24 hours, a writ petition will be filed.
