A total of 39 flights were cancelled at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Tuesday due to ongoing airspace closures in several Middle Eastern countries amid heightened security concerns following strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, bringing the total number of cancelled flights to 148.

The airport’s Executive Director, Group Captain SM Ragib Samad, told Jago News that 148 Middle East-bound flights from Dhaka have been cancelled since the afternoon of February 28.

Airport sources said that beginning February 28, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan announced temporary closures of their airspace. This has directly impacted operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Due to the airspace closures, 23 flights were cancelled on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, and 39 on March 3.

However, flight operations have now resumed on other routes, except those to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
