Former transport union leader shot dead in Khulna

Masum Billah, former president of the Rupsha-Bagerhat Inter-District Transport Workers’ Union, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Khulna on Wednesday night. Police and local residents detained a man named Ashok Ghosh with a firearm in connection with the incident.

The attack took place around 9:15 pm on March 4 at Dak Bangla Mor in the city.

According to police and local sources, Masum Billah was at the market near Dak Bangla Mor when a five-member armed group targeted him and opened fire. He was shot in the body and later taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Tajul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, said that a police officer on duty at Dak Bangla Mor, along with local residents, detained Ashok Ghosh at the scene. A foreign-made pistol was recovered from him. Police continue operations to apprehend the other suspects involved in the murder.
