Family Card to support women’s empowerment: CPD
The government’s newly announced ‘Family Card’ programme is expected to provide financial support to families while advancing women’s empowerment, said Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).
Speaking at the CPD office in Dhanmondi during a session on recommendations for the 2026-27 national budget on Tuesday, March 10, she emphasised the importance of targeting genuine beneficiaries to prevent misuse of funds.
Fahmida called on the government to establish mechanisms for identifying and supporting vulnerable and at-risk populations.
“Budget planning is taking place at a time when Bangladesh’s economy faces multiple challenges,” Fahmida said. “It is crucial to adopt focused and strategic measures. Policymakers should prioritize macroeconomic stability, control inflation, maintain fiscal discipline, encourage investment, and expand employment opportunities.”
She also highlighted that budgetary planning should ensure the protection of the poor, marginalised, and vulnerable groups, while promoting policies to accelerate economic recovery.
CPD’s honorary fellow Mostafizur Rahman, Research Director Khandakar Golam Moazzem, and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
