Mamunul challenges Dhaka-13 election result in HC
Maulana Mamunul Haque, Amir of the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and the Jammat-led alliance candidate, has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the results of the Dhaka-13 (Mohammadpur) constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The constituency was won by BNP candidate Bobby Hajjaj, with Mamunul Haque as his nearest rival, who secured 86,889 votes.
Mamunul Haque’s lawyer submitted the petition to the relevant branch of the High Court. A hearing on the petition is scheduled for Wednesday (11 March) before a single bench of Justice Md. Zakir Hossain.
Earlier, more than 25 candidates had filed petitions in the High Court challenging election results. The court accepted these petitions and ordered that the ballots and other necessary materials from the constituencies be preserved.
Under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, election tribunals are formed in the High Court to hear complaints of electoral irregularities. Justice Md. Zakir Hossain is hearing these petitions as the presiding single-judge bench.
